The Palace on Wheels is counted among the most
prestigious trains of the world because the facilities offered
onboard are unique and unparalleled and you cannot find the same
in any other train of the world.
The Palace on Wheel's history is legendry and vivid. The
carriages, which form this train, have a history of their own.
The rulers of princely states of Rajputana, Gujarat, the Nizam of
Hyderabad and the Viceroy of British India once used the
magnificent and luxurious coaches of this train.
After India's Independence in 1947, Indian Railways decided to
discontinue the use of these magnificent coaches on account of
their gorgeous furnishings and very rich and traditional
interiors, as it was not viable to include them in normal
passenger trains.
During 1981-82 the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation and
Indian Railways decided to launch a special heritage tourist
train for providing an unforgettable experience to the tourists
visiting Rajasthan and the result was the Palace On Wheels.
Powered by a steam engine the train made its inaugural trip on
26th January 1982.
The wide media coverage of the Palace on Wheels, since its launch
in 1982 has contributed in its immense popularity all over the
world. Television channels such as BBC World, Zee TV, National
Geographic, MDR of Germany and many others have covered the train
in detail in their programs, which have contributed to enhancing
its popularity.
The Palace on Wheels covers the most fascinating tourist
destinations of India. A tour to the Pink city of Jaipur,
Ranthambore National Park, Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary and the Taj
Mahal at Agra on this fabulous train is truly a great experience
and an unforgettable journey of a lifetime. You can book a trip
on the Palace on Wheels with Train Travel India.
